WHAT IS SACRED SOMATICS?

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.
It will not lead you astray.
— Rumi

Sacred Somatics is a process through which we can re-learn to heal ourselves and move, live, speak and act more authentically. It is not something which is done to us, or something that can be done for us.

It requests our engagement; it draws on our own innate capacity to allow energies to move through our bodies in a natural way, understanding the many factors which have thus far prevented us from doing this, with tools to move organically through these blocks. Sacred Somatics is concerned not only with releasing what is no longer needed, but crucially with the ability to allow in new energies which serve us and the world; to draw out our own unique expression, to enliven, to re-enchant our own bodies and beings.

Our Instinctive Nature: Shaking Medicine

Throughout most of human existence on this planet, healing was associated not with sitting still and being quiet, but with movement, sound and community. Sacred Somatics aims to rekindle the body and spirit’s natural capacities for expression and self-healing.

Shaking and trembling is the natural way in which all mammals release the energies of stress and trauma - we have likely been shaking for longer than we’ve been human.. This phenomenon is not well understood in our culture, and thus shaking and other energetic release processes are frequently suppressed.

Learning to initiate this shaking response is an incredible way to access the innate capacity for the body to heal itself; intuitively clearing energies from the whole body in the perfect order, and revealing to us more and more deeply the absolute genius that we have access to when we learn to allow it fully.

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost.

Emotional Expression, Soul Expression

Working with meditations on the energetic body, we can begin to expand our awareness into the emotional body. We learn to feel emotions as energetic shapes and learn to express them as sacred gifts. We examine our own assumptions, judgements and internal patterns which keep particular shapes of energy locked into the body. We learn to let the body become animal again.

As the backlog clears we begin to move from deconstruction to exquisite fabrication; into the very depths of our own being, our own sense of sacredness and the deep resonances and longings which fill our unique soul.

As we begin to let go of the search for the one truth, and instead attend to our ways of perceiving and how they influence what we then see, we increase the flexibility and flow of our own perceptions, opening us to the potential of a sacred cosmos of infinite depth and beauty.

Sacred Somatics can bring us:

  • Space for expression of the parts of ourselves which have previously been disallowed

  • Remembering of our animal nature

  • Healing of trauma and difficult emotional patterns

  • A sense of safety and groundedness in the body

  • A sense of our own boundaries

  • Naturalness of movement, action and communication

  • Safety in expressing ourselves in front of others

  • Clearing of unexpressed energies in the body

  • Unblocking life energy and bringing renewed vitality

  • Clearing of sexual shame and re-connection to our sensual and sexual nature

  • Discovery and expansion of the multiple aspects of the nature of our own soul

  • Opening of the joys of intuitive expressive movement

  • Connection to our own natural power and primal energy

  • Connection to our own heart and the capacity to move and speak from this place

And above all, connection with the depth of beauty and sacredness of ourselves, of others and of our world.
